Walton-Verona senior Hannah Hall became her school’s first regional champion in girls golf Monday when she shot an even-par 70 to lead the local field in the Region 7 tournament at Twin Oaks Golf and Plantation Club.

Hall finished two strokes ahead of Notre Dame sophomore Clare Hooper, who led the Pandas to the regional team title and a berth in the girls state tournament scheduled for Oct. 7-9 at Bowling Green Country Club.

Notre Dame had qualified for the state tournament 14 of the last 15 years as a regional champion or runner-up. Under this year’s new playoff format, only one team from each region advances to the state tournament and the Pandas placed first Monday by a 330-350 margin over runner-up Cooper.

The other Pandas among the top 10 scorers Monday were junior Emma Meyer (83) and sophomore Hannah Rice (84).

Hall is one of the region’s seven individual state qualifiers. The others are Eva Maley, Reagan Ramage and Kendall Brissey of Cooper, Caitlyn Richardson and Hannah Dargie of Ryle and Brooklyn Callioni of Villa Madonna.

Richardson, a senior who placed third in the regional with a 77, will be playing in her fifth consecutive state tournament. She was on Ryle teams that competed in the season finale the last four years.

Abby Cook

Bishop Brossart senior Abby Cook took medalist honors in the Region 8 tournament on Monday with a 1-over 73 at A.J. Jolly Golf Course.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Cook has qualified for the state tournament, but the first time as a regional champion. She placed fourth in last year’s regional tournament.

Grant County won the team title Monday. The region’s other individual state qualifiers included Ella Rowland and K.J. Toole of Highlands and Brooke Bihl of Newport Central Catholic.
