Kenton County Parks and Recreation offers Earth Day mini-camp, Touch-A-Truck, in April

Join Kenton County Parks & Recreation and the Kenton County Public Library on April 16 & 17 at Lincoln Ridge Park in Independence (Shelter House 3) to celebrate Earth Day.

Monday and Tuesday will have different activities, so come for one day or both. The fun lasts from 10 a.m. to noon.

Staff from Kenton County Solid Waste will be presenting fun recycling activities on Tuesday, followed by awesome hands-on fun Earth Day activities on Wednesday. On Tuesday, there will be a skit, games, activities and more. On Wednesday, we’ll look at seasons and weather, study clouds, and do some Earth Day art to display at the library.

Lincoln Ridge Park is located at 420 Independence Station Rd., Independence, KY 41051.

Kenton County Parks & Recreation and the Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Pack 808 will be presenting Touch-A-Truck at Middleton-Mills Park (by the football complex) on Tuesday, April 23 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

This is an opportunity for children to see, touch, sit in and climb on the vehicles they may have in toy form! Participating county departments and independent companies bring dump trucks, fire trucks, garbage trucks, tow trucks, bulldozers, loaders, tractor trailers etc. for the children and parents to climb on and into.

The kids get a “close-up” look at big trucks and other big vehicles they normally see only from a distance.  Kids can climb inside, pretend to drive, blow the horns and take pictures.  The operators of the equipment are there to answer questions and explain how their vehicles work.

It’s also Pack 808’s Spring Recruitment Activity and leaders will share information about becoming a Cub Scout and they’ll be serving hotdogs! Kona Ice will be available for purchase.
