Fort Wright seeking experienced full-time Police Chief; applications accepted until January 8


The City of Fort Wright is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of full-time Police Chief. The position reports to the City Administrator and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the activities of the COFW Police Department. Departmental work involves maintaining law and order through patrol, criminal investigation, crime prevention, public education, and rendering high-quality service to residents.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, as well as, strong organizational skills, leadership skills, and excellent customer service abilities. He or she must also possess excellent writing skills and be proficient in various technology to create word processing documents, databases, and spreadsheets, as well as, be of satisfactory physical and mental health.

This individual will also be responsible for duties including but not limited to:

• Preparation, implementation, and reporting of $1.6 million departmental budget;
• Plan and Coordinate Law Enforcement Activities that enforce federal, state, and local laws;
• Purchase equipment;
• Facilitate training;
• Work during inclement weather;
• Attend City Council, Caucus, and Committee meetings;
• Activity reporting; 
• Grant writing;
• Incident Command;
• Record Retention;
• Citizen Complaint and Inquiry Response;
• Formulate and present policy recommendations;
• Maintain Departmental Accreditation;
• Employment Recruitment, Selection, Supervision, Scheduling, Disciplining, and Evaluation of Department Staff;
• Fleet Management;
• Evidence Oversight;
• Inventory; and
• Perform as necessary the essential functions and job duties of Police Captain, Sergeant, and Police Officer.

The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University in Law Enforcement or other closely related field – supplemented by previous comparative work experience plus progressively responsible law enforcement and supervisory experience, including graduation from a four hundred (400) hour Basic Training Course; or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Salary Range (DOQ) is $74,880.00 to $93,600.00 plus excellent benefit package provided, which currently includes the following:
