More than 100 Fidelity employee volunteers are transforming Florence Elementary School today

More than 100 Fidelity Investments volunteers are set to “transform” Florence Elementary School as part of the company’s Transformation Day project, a partnership with Points of Light.

Fidelity Investments has worked with Florence Elementary School through different educational programs over the last few years and is bringing School Transformation Day to them for the first time this year.

Volunteers are working to create a dynamic and functional learning environment for students and teachers including:

• Constructing bleachers along the back playground for afterschool programming and student engagement;

• Enhancing the landscaping in the courtyard;

• Painting inspirational murals to be placed in the cafeteria and front entrance of the school;

• Assembling math manipulatives and reading packets for the students to use in school and at home;

• Decorating classroom doorframes to showcase their “Leader in Me” curriculum and;

• Installing sensory paths in the hallways for students to use across the building

They will be on the job from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. today.

Research shows a learning environment’s condition is a greater predictor of academic and social achievement than many family background factors and socioeconomic conditions. Through its Fidelity Cares program, Fidelity’s goal is to ensure students in its communities receive a quality, foundational education delivered in an environment that helps them thrive.

In 2010, Fidelity Investments and Points of Light entered into a partnership designed to help revitalize the school learning environments in schools near Fidelity’s regional operations centers. Throughout this 10-year program, Fidelity has engaged over 20,000 total volunteers to make an impact within their local communities and schools.

This year, Fidelity’s School Transformation Days will involve more than 2,100 employees at 19 schools across the country.
