Rob Braun, long-time news anchor at WKRC-TV, leaving ‘because he doesn’t fit’ Sinclair model

A longtime news anchor at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati quit his job because he dislikes working for Sinclair Broadcast Group. Sinclair bought the station in 2012.

Rob Braun

Rob Braun began working at WKRC in 1984, quickly rising to evening anchor.

In a Facebook post after his announcement, Braun stressed that he is not retiring, nor is WKRC forcing him out. He said he’s “choosing to leave” because he doesn’t “fit well with the Sinclair news model.” He promised he would say more on the subject on-air during his last broadcast at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 28.

Braun’s announcement was met with an outpouring of support from area viewers, many of whom vowed to stop watching WKRC after Braun leaves. Other posts criticized Sinclair, Berry reports. “No legitimate journalist or newsman fits well with the Sinclair news model,” West Chester resident Michael D’Agostino wrote on Twitter. “Glad Rob had the guts to call it out and take a stand.”

The anchor is the son of Bob Braun, a regionally prominent TV personality who was based in Cincinnati and died in 2001.

Channel 5and9 news should pay his salary for a year because it’s going to make them money they will jump in ratings

How terrifying for our country when a man with Rob’s integrity leaves the anchor position. Rob has reported the news without bias – how news should be reported! We will miss Rob and will get our news elsewhere. Good luck Rob – you deserve the best.

Good luck on your future Mr. Braun. As one door closes another door opens and it’s definitely been so sweet to have one of the best anchors ever living in Cincinnati. It’s very unfortunate that the viewers will suffer this loss simply because of the business model that Sinclair goes by. Rob has been a fixture in so many households for so many years but he will rise to the top somewhere else now.

No more local 12 for us and we can’t stand 9 news so I guess channel 5 will get some screen time but it will be sparingly.

Rob, you are a terrific anchor. And, I’m old enough to remember your daddy who was also naturally gifted. A true community family. Please come back on another station soon ( and provide them with a ratings boost! )

Rob Braun will be missed, But I can completely understand why he left because 12 news is going way to far left. Report fake news or a very one sided. Even tonight, July 1, they showed a tweet by Donald Trump, Jr. that read. “ Kamala Harris is not American black but….”” and they reported he said she is not black enough. Why do they make things up? He said “ not American black. “. Can’t they read? I have witnessed more and more of this type of reporting from them over the last couple years. But now I will more on also. Best of luck to Rob and his family.
