ODOT, KYTC want motorists to be aware of upcoming traffic disruptions on I-71 around Lytle Tunnel

The Ohio Department of Transportation and KYTC want Northern Kentucky motorists traveling through Cincinnati on Interstate 71 to be aware of the following upcoming traffic disruptions.

Work in the Interstate 71 Lytle Tunnel requires the following I-71/Lytle Tunnel ramp and full closures:

Close north I-71 at the I-71/75 split, at Ohio exit 1, from 10 p.m. Friday, May 10 until 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. All traffic will be diverted to north I-75 and detoured across east State Route 562 to I-71.

In addition, along east Fort Washington Way (I-71/U.S. 50), there will be no access into the Tunnel; U.S. 50 will remain open.

The following ramp closures will also be in effect for north I-71:

• Close the Fourth Street entrance ramp to north I-71 in Covington, KY; use the Twelfth Street entrance ramp to north I-71/75;

• Close the Second Street entrance ramp to north I-71 in Cincinnati; use the Fifth Street entrance ramp to north I-71.

In addition, close south I-71 at Ohio exit 2 and through the tunnel from 10 p.m. Saturday, May 11 until 9 a.m. Sunday, May 12. All traffic will be diverted onto I-471 and detoured across west I-275 to I-71/I-75. The alternate route is SR 562 to I-75.

The following ramp closures will also be in effect for southbound I-71:

• Close the U.S. 42/Eden Park Drive entrance ramp to south I-71; use the Liberty Street entrance ramp to south I-471 and follow I-71 detour;

• Close the Third Street exit ramp to south I-71; use Gilbert Avenue/Reading Road exit ramp to access downtown.

Arrow boards and/or signs will alert motorists of the upcoming restrictions. All work is contingent upon weather.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone. Move over or slow down.
