NKU women’s basketball adds junior college standout Lewis to 2019-20 roster

Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Camryn Whitaker has added junior college standout Janna Lewis to the Norse roster for the 2019-20 season.

Lewis comes to NKU after playing two seasons at Motlow State Community College in Tennessee. The 5-foot-9 forward averaged 22.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game last season, ranking fifth and 14th in the NJCAA, respectively. Lewis was named to the NJCAA All-America second team.

“We are so excited to add Janna to our 2019 class,” Whitaker said. “Her strength, rebounding and ability to score from both the wing and in the post will be a huge asset to our team. Along with Janna’s experience, she also brings a level of toughness, energy and confidence that is contagious.”

Lewis earned first team all-conference honors in both campaigns at Motlow State. She was also named the 2018 Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Freshman of the Year and 2019 TCCAA Offensive Player of the Year and co-MVP. In two seasons with the Lady Bucks, Lewis netted 1,153 points and pulled down 585 rebounds to go with 102 assists.

Prior to Motlow State, Lewis was a two-time state champion at Butler Traditional High School in Louisville. The Bears posted a 119-17 record in the four years that Lewis spent on the roster, and she earned All-6th Region and all-tournament honors in her junior season. Lewis also lettered in track and field, claiming a state crown in the shot put.

Lewis joins an NKU signing class that includes freshmen Carissa Garcia, Tayah Irvin and Ivy Turner. The Norse posted an 11-18 record this past season, including a 10-8 mark in the Horizon League.
