Historic preservation in Northern Kentucky’s river cities will be celebrated this Wednesday during the 2019 River Cities Excellence in Preservation Awards ceremony.
The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1001 Monmouth St., a building recently restored by Newport Millennium Housing Corp. and one of this year’s award winners.
May is National Preservation Month, and the Ohio River cities of Newport, Covington and Bellevue will come together and celebrate the communities’ historic preservation achievements.

“This annual awards ceremony acknowledges outstanding preservation projects and the efforts of citizens working to rehabilitate and restore our historic buildings,” said Scott Clark, Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Newport. “All of the river cities have these wonderful historic assets, and historic preservation allows us to hold on to the best qualities of these buildings.”

Parking is available on the street and in the parking lots of the City of at Newport, 998 Monmouth St., and the Campbell County Fiscal Court, 1098 Monmouth St. Light refreshments will be served during the event.
It was a disappointment to me as a Ludlow resident not to have our town included this year in the preservation awards. Ludlow is on the cutting edge of river city renovation with its historic housing stock
and mixed use properties along Elm St.
