Newport senior forward Tahj Harding made six free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 29 points. He scored 18 points in the first half that ended with his team holding a 32-27 lead.

Conner tied the score, 40-40, on a 3-point basket by junior forward Jalen Scott midway through the third quarter. Newport opened up a 66-56 lead in the fourth quarter, but Conner reduced it to 67-63. That’s when the Cougars used fouls to stop the clock and the Wildcats clinched the win at the free throw line.
