Kentucky First Lady Glenna Bevin announces launch of 2019 Kentucky Derby Poster contest

First Lady Glenna Bevin has announced the launch of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Poster Contest for high school students in the Commonwealth.

The contest is open to students in grades 9-12 across Kentucky who are invited to create the official Governor’s Derby Poster, to be displayed in the State Capitol for years to come. The theme is: “What does Derby Day look like to you?”

“Matt and I are strong advocates of fostering creativity in the minds of our young people,” said First Lady Bevin. “We believe that it is very important to give students the chance to use their artistic skills for a greater cause. It empowers them and gives them confidence to share their own ideas.”

Three contest finalists will be invited to attend a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion, where the winner will be revealed.

The first-place winner will receive the opportunity to attend the Kentucky Derby Festival Luncheon and the Derby Eve Gala as a guest of the Governor and First Lady and will receive a $500 scholarship. Second place will receive a $300 scholarship and third place a $200 scholarship from Derby Celebration, Inc.

The deadline for submission is Feb. 28.
