Sign up for NKY Education Council’s One to One volunteers program to ‘coach a child, change a life’

One to One; Practicing Reading and Math with Students, a program of the NKY Education Council, is seeking volunteers to become new reading and math coaches for Spring 2019.

The training program is Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gateway Community & Technical College, Convening Center, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

If you’ve been looking for the perfect way to give back to students in the region, here’s your chance to “coach a child, and change a life!”

The One to One program trains community volunteers to produce measurable, positive results for first to third-grade students who are struggling with reading or math.

One to One Coaches practice with the same student for 35 minutes once a week in a simple format that emphasizes reading, writing, and building basic skills in number sense, numbers, and operations.

Volunteer opportunities exist in 34 elementary schools throughout Northern Kentucky. Coaching sessions are coordinated based on the volunteer’s availability during the school day.
