Open Letter to NKyTribune Readers from the Trib Team

The NKyTribune has less than two weeks to meet the maximum match offered by NEWSMATCH, distinguished group of national journalism funders. We are less than halfway to our goal. We hope you will help us finish strong so that we can leverage every single penny NEWSMATCH is holding out there for us.

The aim is to increase INDIVIDUAL contributions to local independent, nonprofit news, grand enterprises like the NKyTribune that are devoted to covering local communities by providing local, reliable news, as comprehensively as possible with underlying ethics and professional standards.

We can do more, and with the additional resources afforded through this NEWSMATCH campaign, we’ll invest more in putting local reporters on the streets and experienced editors behind them.

The clock is ticking toward December 31. You can give online here or send your check, made out to NKyTribune, to 644 Braddock Court, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.

NEWSMATCH will match every contribution from INDIVIDUALS up to $1000. Every gift is meaningful — and very much appreciated.

The Northern Kentucky Tribune Team,

Judy Clabes, Mark Hansel, Jacob Clabes, Hannah Carver, Vicki Prichard, Gene Clabes, Don Owen, Terry Boehmker — and all our contributing writers

For years when I paid bills, there were two that caused me to ask myself “why am I doing this?” One is to Time Warner Cable and the other is to The Enquirer. I really like holding a newspaper in my hand but the Enquirer has become the equivalent of a throw-away tossed in the driveway. There is almost no Kentucky news and I really don’t want to read about the soccer stadium or the Pike county murders. I don’t want to pay $5.00 for the Thanksgiving edition when I suspect the paper is well compensated by all the advertising. I had a dispute with a bill from the Enquirer so I just quit the newspaper a couple of weeks ago. I made a contribution to the NKY Tribune instead and wish them success.

Here’s the problem. While the NKY Tribune is an exception to the rule ; the average journalist today has less ethics, morals, professionalism , accountability and responcibility than the worldwide problem of Catholic priets sexually abusing chidren. It NOT an exaggeration. THE PROBLEM IS THAT BAD.
Everyone recognizes the absolute need of freedom of the press along with speech and expression and that ALL government action must be question and held accountable.. However, the media is the largest ” good ole boy system ” today. No one holds the media accountable and responsible for their actions nor questions their methods.
Until journalists/media clean up their acts, accept accountability and responcibilty, funding will NEVER occur.
