Fire at Universal Environmental Services in Florence Thurs; lots of smoke, significant damage, no injuries

The Florence Fire/EMS Department responded to a fire at Universal Environmental Services at 7500 Empire Drive in Florence Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters from several area department assisted in bringing the blaze under control. There was significant damage to the structure, which houses an environmental recycling facility, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Florence Fire Department released the following statement regarding the incident:

On 1 November 2018, Florence firefighters responded to a report of a one-alarm fire in the 7500 block of Empire Dr.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from an environmental recycling facility. Fire crews worked in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.

Due to the nature of the incident, additional fire companies were called in to assist. No injuries were reported. The fire, which caused significant damage to the building, is under investigation. 

Florence was assisted by crews from Independence, Elsmere, Erlanger and CVG Airport Fire Departments, as well as Boone County Emergency Management.
