With only three home games on this season’s schedule, the players and coaches on Thomas More University’s football team knew they would do a great deal of traveling this fall.

The Saints have also done their share of winning away from home, posting a 3-1 record on the road. They will get a chance to improve on that mark this Saturday in the state of Virginia, where Thomas More will visit Emory & Henry at 1 p.m.

Thomas More enters Saturday with a 4-1 record and four consecutive victories. The Saints visited Upstate New York last week and rolled to a 48-12 win over St. Lawrence.

Hjavier Pitts leads Thomas More with 702 yards and six touchdowns.

Thomas More churned out 600 yards of total offense in that victory, including 334 yards on the ground. Hjavier Pitts (142 yards) and Luke Zajac (117 yards) each rushed for more than five yards per carry. Zajac also ran for a pair of touchdowns, while Pitts rushed for one score and also hauled in a touchdown reception.

Justin Post completed 16 passes in 27 attempts for 266 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints finished with a 34-16 advantage in first downs and held St. Lawrence (1-4) to just 243 total yards.

Pitts has now rushed for a team-leading 702 yards and six touchdowns this season. The senior running back from Cincinnati also averages 140.4 yards per game on the ground. Zajac is second on the team with 464 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Emory & Henry is 2-1 after suffering a 56-27 loss at Hampden-Sydney (Va.) last week. The Wasps surrendered 633 yards of total offense to Hampden-Sydney, 544 of which came through the air.

Emory & Henry quarterback Hunter Taylor threw for 212 yards on 12-of-25 passing and a touchdown against Hampden-Sydney, but he also had a pair of interceptions. Taylor was also the team’s leading rusher with 26 yards.

Thomas More has met Emory & Henry just once in football, that during the first round of the 1992 NCAA Division III playoffs. The Wasps posted a 17-0 win over the visiting Saints in that contest.

ROAD WARRIORS: Through five games this season, Thomas More has played in five different states (North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama and New York).

UP NEXT: Thomas More returns home on Oct. 13 to play host to nationally ranked Muhlenberg (Pa.) at noon at BB&T Field. Muhlenberg (4-0) is ranked No. 24 in this week’s NCAA Division III poll.
