UK Notebook: Cats ranked No. 1 in Blue Ribbon Yearbook preseason rankings

The college basketball preseason rankings are starting to come out and Kentucky is ranked No. 1 in the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

The Wildcats have been ranked in the Top 10 by the magazine’s writers and editors for the past seven years.

Kansas is ranked second behind Kentucky in the poll, followed by Gonzaga, Duke, Tennessee, Nevada, Virginia, Auburn, Oregon, and Michigan State.

Overall, six Southeastern Conference schools are ranked in the Top 25. Mississippi State is at No. 11, LSU is 18th and Florida is No. 20 in the poll.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has seven teams in the poll, one more than the SEC.

HOF INDUCTION CEREMONY FRIDAY

The University of Kentucky will induct six members into the Athletics Hall of Fame Friday at the Woodford Reserve at Kroger Field.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

The inductees include Russ Cochran (golf, 1975-78), Anthony Davis (men’s basketball, 2012), Victoria Dunlap (women’s’ basketball 2008-11), Dennis Emery (tennis coach, 1983-2012), Eric Quigley (men’s tennis, 2009-12) and Jacob Tamme (2004-07).

The UK Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2005 and the charter class included 88 members who previously had their jerseys retired by the school.

2019 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE SET

Kentucky released its schedule for next season and will play eight games at Kroger Field.

The Wildcats will open against Toledo on Aug. 31 and will play host to Eastern Michigan the following week on Sept. 7. Both schools are members of the Mid-American Conference.

Kentucky then hosts Florida on Sept. 14, followed by road games at Mississippi State (Sept. 21) and South Carolina (Sept. 28), respectively. The Wildcats will then host Arkansas on Oct. 12, following an open date on Oct. 5. The Wildcats have another open date on Nov. 2.

Kentucky is at Georgia on Oct. 19, followed by a home game against Missouri the following week on Oct. 26. The Wildcats will play three of their last four games at home, hosting Tennessee (Nov. 9), UT-Martin (Nov. 23) and Louisville (Nov. 30). Kentucky is at Vanderbilt on Nov. 16.
