Will Ryan could soon become the first Bellevue running back to surpass 1,000 yards in a single season since 2012.

In his team’s first five games, Ryan picked up 904 yards on 87 carries and tops the list of leading rushers in Northern Kentucky high school football. The senior’s per-game rushing average of 180.8 yards ranks eighth in the latest statewide statistics compiled by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

The last Bellevue running back to reach a four-figure rushing total was Dylan Huff, who had 1,845 yards in 12 games during the 2012 season. The team’s single-season rushing record is 2,851 yards in 13 games by Ricky Buckler in 2009.

Ryan has also scored 12 of the Tigers’ 18 touchdowns for 72 points, the second highest scoring total in the area. In his team’s 28-21 win over Brossart on Sept. 1, he rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 27 yards and 1 TD.

Based on statistics posted by local teams on the KHSAA website, Covington Catholic sophomore quarterback Caleb Jacob is the area’s passing leader with 1,130 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first five games as a varsity starter. CovCath senior running back Casey McGinness ranks first in scoring (96 points), second in rushing (784 yards) and ninth in pass receiving (190 yards).

The area’s leading pass receiver is Campbell County senior Reid Jolly with 32 receptions for 511 yards and five touchdowns. In his team’s season opener, he caught six passes for 203 yards and three TDs in a win over Dixie Heights.

Simon Kenton quarterback Caleb Farfsing, another first-year starter, has also been putting up some impressive numbers. He ranks fourth in rushing (516 yards), fifth in passing (534 yards) and fifth in scoring (48 points) among local players.

Here are the top offensive players in Northern Kentucky compiled by the NKyTribune. Four teams were excluded — Boone County, Dixie Heights, Holmes and Newport Central Catholic — because they did not have up-to-date statistics posted on the KHSAA website.
