The internationally renowned Harmonic Brass of Munich will perform at the opening concert of the Cathedral Concert Series’ 43rd season on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1140 Madison Avenue.

Harmonic Brass will perform classical masterpieces, music of different styles and eras, as well as its own original arrangements and compositions. Several musical selections at this Saturday’s concert will include the Basilica Grand Organ, played by Dr. Gregory Schaffer, Director of the Cathedral Concert Series.

Known worldwide for its original musicianship, depth of musical artistry and exceptional technical precision, Harmonic Brass has performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall and travels the globe, performing more than 120 concerts a year. This will be the group’s second time playing with the Cathedral Concert Series.

Harmonic Brass of Munich describes itself as “an ensemble that spreads good humor in a meticulous performance combined with baroque joie de vivre — serious musical work alternating with giggling boyishness.” The group consists of Manfred Häberlein on the Tuba, Thomas Lux on Trombone, Elisabeth Fessler and Hans Zellner on Trumpet, and Andreas Binder, who performs on French Horn and serves as the group’s host and humorous announcer in-between musical selections.

The Cathedral Concert Series was founded in 1974 by Dr. Robert Schaffer and presents instrumental and choral music in the rich tradition of western liturgical and inspired classical music in a suitable visual and acoustic environment. Concert-goers will enjoy the Harmonic Brass program amid the pristine acoustics of the Cathedral Basilica’s Gothic interior.

All Cathedral concerts are open to the public and there is no admission charge.
