A section of Donaldson Highway will be dedicated as the H. Gordon Martin Memorial Highway.

Martin passed away in 2002.

Martin was a businessman, developer, and a pioneer in Northern Kentucky. He was the founding member and past president of the Kentucky Homebuilders Association and the Northern Kentucky Homebuilders Association. Martin’s company built subdivisions such as Ranch Hill, Maywood, and Cherry Hill.

Martin was instrumental in forming the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in 1969 and served as its Chairman in 1975.

“I am very pleased to be a part of this ceremony where we honor Gordon Martin and his family. Gordon was a special person that cared a lot about the people of Northern Kentucky. Still today, we benefit from his contributions to our community on the many projects that he worked on,” said Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore.

Martin served on the Board of Regents of Northern Kentucky University in 1972 and was elected chairman in 1982. He was appointed by two different Kentucky governors; Governor John Y. Brown and Governor Martha Collins, to serve on several Northern Kentucky boards and task forces centered on economic development and transportation.

Most notably, in 1985 he served on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Highway Task Force (District 6), which promoted the construction of interstate highway, I-275.

“Gordon Martin was known a visionary leader not only in Boone County but all across Northern Kentucky,” said Kentucky State Senator John Schickel, who sponsored legislation in the 2018 General Assembly to rename the highway.
