NKU College of Education convening Think Tank program on ‘equal opportunity’ with Dr. Crystal Laura

How can educational institutions work to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of race or socioeconomic status?

Northern Kentucky University’s College of Education and Human Services will convene national and local experts, educators, and students around this topic Dec. 1-2 as part of its Think Tank series. The two-day event will feature Dr. Crystal Laura, associate professor of educational leadership at Chicago State University and author of Being Bad: My Baby Brother and the School-to-Prison Pipeline.

“The College of Education and Human Services is committed to doing all we can to improve the educational opportunities for all students,” said Dean Cynthia J. Reed.

“We look forward to learning from Dr. Laura and to engaging in important dialogue with her and with all in attendance. We also look forward to the impact this Think Tank will have on our region, as individual and collective commitments to positive action are identified and implemented.”

The COEHS Think Tank series was launched in December 2015 to convene the community around issues of national and regional importance, and to work collaboratively toward reforms that help improve our community.

Previous topics have included: addressing educational injustices through community-based reforms; how the community can support and encourage individuals with disabilities; and tackling the region’s heroin epidemic. The series is presented by NKU’s College of Education and Human Services.
