Safe Aging Coalition raising funds to provide night lights to elderly — falls are a leading cause of injury

The Safe Aging Coalition of Northern Kentucky is a nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting health and wellness among aging and at-risk adults through safety education and awareness programs.

Now, the group is raising money through RedBasket.org to purchase night lights to keep older people safer in their homes at night.

Over the last two years, the Safe Aging Coalition has been focused on fall prevention.

Falling is a leading cause of injury among senior adults and can potentially lead to hospitalization, rehabilitation or long-term care. The Safe Aging Coalition is providing night lights to seniors to increase visibility in their homes at night and reduce the number of falls.

“It is important to help elderly men and women stay safe in their homes as they get older,” said Executive Director Suzanne Piper-Baird. “By purchasing night lights, it will help make houses safer.”

The Safe Aging Coalition is hoping to raise $3,500 through RedBasket.org, a fee-free fundraising website sponsored by WoodmenLife, to purchase 1,000 night lights to distribute during events throughout the year. This fundraiser will be available through July 12. To learn more or make a tax-deductible donation, please visit this website.

RedBasket.org, founded in 2012, is a web-based, nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, dedicated to helping individuals raise money for personal emergencies and community improvement projects in a fee-free environment. Red Basket is fully supported by WoodmenLife which covers Red Basket’s administrative costs in their entirety so 100% of donations are directly passed through to the cause.
