New Haven Elementary student to represent Dan Beard Council in Pinewood Derby championship

Tate Bailey, a 7-year-old student at New Haven Elementary in Union and a Cub Scout in Pack 805, will be the first Cub Scout to represent Greater Cincinnati’s Dan Beard Council at the Pinewood Derby World Championship in New York’s Times Square on June 30.

Tate Bailey

Tate joined the Cub Scouts for many reasons, but one of the main motives besides shooting B.B. guns was the opportunity to build a Pinewood Derby race car.

Tate and his mother spent countless hours together researching different cars, trying to figure out what “coning the hubs, truing, wheel bore treatment” and a whole list of other words/phrases meant and turning what used to be a block of wood into what would become the first-place finisher in his pack and district races.

When asked if he would like to go to the Pinewood Derby World Championship, Tate said, “Yes, a thousand times yes.”

If you would like to sponsor Tate or help offset some of the costs (hotel, transportation, etc.) for him to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity, please consider donating through this page. https://www.gofundme.com/help-send-tate-to-race-in-pinewood-derby-championship-in-nyc

Any support, whether through a donation and/or encouragement, will be priceless and greatly appreciated.

The race will be held on June 30 in Times Square’s Marriott Marquis located at 1535 Broadway. For more information, go to https://www.bsa-gnyc.org/championshippinewood.
