With the sale of Hip 3313 during Thursday’s 10th session of the 12-day Keeneland September Yearling Sale, gross sales for the auction exceeded $300 million for the first time since 2008.
Thursday marked the final day of Book 5, with 255 yearlings sold for a total of $6,557,100, for an average of $25,714 and a median of $15,000.
With two session left in the sale, 2,261 yearlings have grossed $304,265,700, for an average of $134,571 and a median of $75,000.
Wave’s Bloodstock acquired the most expensive horse Thursday when it paid $180,000 for a colt by Violence consigned by Village View Farm, agent. The yearling, out of the winning City Zip mare All About Allison, is a half-brother to stakes-placed All Blue.
The day’s second-high seller is a colt from the first crop of Fed Biz sold to Superfine Farms for $160,000. Consigned by Stuart Morris, agent, the colt is out of the Congrats mare Virtuously and from the family of Canadian champion Larkwhistle.
Ben Glass, agent, was the leading buyer Thursday when he paid $270,000 for two horses.
Warrendale Sales, agent, was top consignor, selling 16 yearlings for $581,000.
