Beechwood schools to honor five accomplished alumni at Hall of Fame event on October 13


Beechwood Independent Schools and the Beechwood Alumni Association are pleased to announce the inaugural class of inductees into Beechwood’s Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. The honorees will be recognized at a luncheon at the Fort Mitchell Country Club on Friday, October 13. They also will be honored later that evening during halftime of Beechwood’s Homecoming game.

“We received many outstanding nominations highlighting the ways our alumni are making a difference in their communities across the country,” said Carol Beirne, Beechwood’s Director of Alumni Relations and Development.

“We look forward to celebrating the tremendous successes in this first class of honorees as well as continuing this tradition for years to come.”

The 2017 Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame honorees include:

Jack Steinman

Jack Steinman (’49)  has been an outstanding community leader with involvement in YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, NKU Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, Boy Scouts of America, CVG Airport Board, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Fort Thomas Education Foundation, Cincinnati Art Museum, United Way Foundation, Taft Museum and the Beechwood Education Foundation.  Jack is a graduate of Miami University.

Phil Ringo

Phil Ringo (’59)  graduated from Princeton University (cum laude) and received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was an Officer in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired  as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. Ringo served as a CEO or president for six companies and a director or advisor to numerous others. He is an active supporter of the Free Library of Philadelphia, a Founding Member of the Museum of the American Revolution and a Director of the Calamar Foundation in Paris, France.

Richard Schrader

Richard Schrader (’68)  attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated in the top 3% of his class. He held several positions at Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. before assuming the role of Chairman in 2010. Schrader is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was named a Fellow of the Society in 2015, an honor held by less than 5% of members, and received its 2014 Professional Practice Ethics and Leadership Award.

Michael Talbott

Michael Talbott (’76)  is a graduate of United States Military Academy and has 30 years of military intelligence experience with the Army and Joint Forces. More than half of his career was in special operations counterterrorism forces targeting terrorists on five continents. Talbott served as Strategic Advisor to the Commander of International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan for two years, advising on various aspects of Afghan security development and allied forces effectiveness.

Julie Smoot Janson

Julie Smoot Janson (’82)  is Executive Vice President, External Affairs, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for Duke Energy. She is the primary legal advisor to Duke Energy’s board of directors and senior management, and she leads the Office of the General Counsel, which includes the company’s legal, corporate governance and ethics and compliance functions. Janson is a graduate of Georgetown College and has her law degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Tickets for the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame luncheon are $25 each or $200 for a table of eight. They can be purchased online or by contacting Carole Beirne at Carol.Beirne@beechwood.kyschools.us.
