Elfers replaces Col Owens of Ft. Mitchell who had been County Chair for eight years when he announced that he was stepping down from the position last month.

Elfers, a resident of Edgewood and long-time party activist in Kenton County, was elected by the members of the Executive Committee at Tuesday’s meeting.

While he promises to bring a fresh approach and new energy to the Kenton County Democratic Party, he is also clear that his vision is very similar to Mr. Owens.

“Col and I have been friends and colleagues on the Kenton County Executive Committee for almost 10 years”, said Elfers. “We have worked side-by-side on so many projects – and I’ve supported Col’s vision for our Party.  I’m very happy he’s staying on the Committee, and I look forward to calling on him for advice as I move forward in this new position.”

Elfers acknowledges the challenge he faces, leading a Democratic Party that has been in the minority for a generation. But, he’s optimistic.

“It’s no secret that the Republican Party currently holds many of the cards, but we might have a few of our own up our sleeve,” Elfers said. “We feel like we have the energy, passion and positive momentum on our side.”

Elfers will serve for the remainder of the current term, which ends in 2020.
