Officials and family gathered today to dedicate a portion of Kentucky Route 536 in Kenton County near Independence as the “Biz Cain Memorial Highway” in honor of Rodney ‘Biz’ Cain who died in December.
Cain was a lifetime resident of NKY, a founder of the Bank of Kentucky, and served as Secretary of Workforce Development under Gov. Paul Patton.
He was a successful businessman, having owned Wiseway Electric Supply and other enterprises, and served in numerous community roles, including as chair of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
Rep. Kimberly Poore Moser led the effort to get a resolution passed in the legislature to make the naming possible.
Cain’s family, including his widow Jackie, was on hand for the dedication.
“So happy to see one of Independence’s favorite sons, as well as a great Northern Kentucky icon and benefactor honored with the dedication of the entire Kenton County portion of State Route 536,” said Independence Mayor Chris Reinersman on Facebook.

A JOINT RESOLUTION designating a portion of Kentucky Route 536 in Kenton County as the “Biz Cain Memorial Highway.”
WHEREAS, Rodney “Biz” Cain was a proud native of Independence, Kentucky.
Born on November 17, 1938, to the late John and Caroline Cain, he would go on to graduate from Simon Kenton High School and the University of Kentucky College of Business; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Cain was the co-founder of the Bank of Kentucky, which was later acquired by BB&T. Mr. Cain would go on to serve as the chairman of the board at BB&T and would continue to be an instrumental part of its continuing good work in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Cain served in myriad community and charitable roles. Always a pillar of his beloved hometown and the surrounding region, he would serve as the youth director for the Greater Cincinnati YMCA, choir director at Brucewood Presbyterian Church, chair of the Boone County Water Commission, chair of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and would be appointed by Governor Paul Patton to serve as Secretary of the Workforce Development Cabinet; and
WHEREAS, Rodney “Biz” Cain departed this earthly life and entered into the 18 kingdom of Heaven on December 1, 2016, leaving his family, friends, and all those
19 whose lives he touched in solemn mourning; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Cain was the beloved husband of 53 years to Jackie Cain, who was his cherished traveling companion to Casa Caintuckee, a home they shared in San Pancho, Mexico. He is also survived by his sons, John Cain and his wife, Carla, Charlie Cain and his wife, Angie, and David Cain; grandchildren, Addison, Hannah, Caroline, Mary, Jacqueline, Ryan, Jack, Aly, Dillon, and Elizabeth Cain; sisters, Bette and her husband Dr. Joseph Bravo, and Jackie and her husband, Kent Brasseale; and a host of other family members, friends, and loved ones who will dearly miss his presence in their lives;
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet shall designate the portion of Kentucky 4 Route 536 in Kenton County as the “Biz Cain Memorial Highway,” and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect the appropriate signage at the Kenton County/Boone County line and the Kenton County/Campbell County line.
