Carespring breaks ground for new $24 million, 94,000 sq. ft. facility in Boone County to open next year

In a ceremony Tuesday, Carespring broke ground for a new 94,000 sq. ft. health care and rehabilitation center located along U.S. 42, just south of Union.

Northern Kentucky top elected officials spoke of the importance of the region coming together in support of health care beds and skilled jobs in the region. After eight long years of regulatory hurdles and legal obstacles, the long-awaited $24 million Boonespring Health Care & Rehabilitation is now under construction and expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.

It took a bipartisan effort of support for the Boonespring project as it moved through the regulatory hurdles in Frankfort. Senator John Schickel (R-Union), State Representatives Dennis Keene (D-Wilder), Sal Santoro (R-Florence), Addia Wuchner (R-Florence) and Adam Koenig (R-Erlanger) were in attendance.

Also on hand were Boone and Campbell County Judges Executive Gary Moore and Steve Pendery, Boone County Commissioner Charlie Walton, officials from the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and Betsy Johnson from the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities.

“I want to acknowledge and thank my colleagues in the county government, the House, Senate and governor’s office for their work in helping to clear the path for this great project,” said State Rep. Dennis Keene. “There was no partisanship in the work we did on behalf of this project. Just committed public servants working to do the best they can for the people.”

Boonespring was a vision of Carespring founder, Barry Bortz, who passed away in September of 2016, after he secured the necessary approvals and plans to move forward with new facility.

“Part of Barry’s life was to always put a mark on everything he touched,” said Carespring CEO Chris Chirumbolo. “I’m proud to say that Boonespring will be Carespring’s 11th skilled nursing facility.” 200 jobs will be created with the opening of Boonespring next year.
