The Northern Kentucky University College of Education and Human Services will host former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch as part of its Think Tank series today.

Lynch is a former Private First Class (PFC) in the United States Army who was captured by Iraqi forces when her unit was ambushed. She was rescued after nine days of captivity and become the first successful rescue of an American POW since World War II.
Lynch gave a keynote address Wednesday evening in the Student Union Ballroom and spoke about overcoming her obstacles and how perseverance helped her survive in Iraq.
Today’s Think Tank event features a plenary panel and breakout sessions on the topics of toxic stress, adverse childhood experiences, trauma-informed care and teaching, resilience, and wellbeing. That session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
“The College of Education and Human Services is committed to improving educational opportunities for all students,” said Dean Cynthia Reed. “Our Think Tank series is making a lasting impact both on our campus and across our region, and we look forward to learning from Jessica and to engaging in important dialogue with her and with all in attendance.”
Think Tank will explore the causes and developments of extreme stress and adversity. Post-traumatic resolutions through educational, medical, and mental health interventions will be also be explained.
Following the session, NKU will screen the film Paper Tigers and explore the topic of traumatized youth who are struggling with adverse childhood experiences. Paper Tigers begins at 2 p.m. in Student Union 302.
