People in News: Jeffries at Kenton Rotary, Dawn principal at NCCHS, Hillenmeyer in honor society


The Executive Director of the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Kids (CASA), Nicky Jeffries, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kenton County’s luncheon meeting on Thursday, February 16.

Jeffries is the director of operations for the CASA For Kids program covering Kenton and Campbell Counties. The mission of CASA For Kids is to provide court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.

“The Rotary Club of Kenton County is so honored to have Nicky Jeffries as our guest speaker,” stated President Steve Gillespie. “Our club members are looking forward to hearing about the many facets of the CASA For Kids program.”

The luncheon will begin at noon at the Colonial Cottage Inn, 3140 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky. There will be limited seating by reservation only. To make a reservation, please contact Steve Gillespie at (859) 371-2900. The cost to cover the lunch is $12.00 per person.

Inducted into leadership honor society at WKU

Daniel Hillenmeyer of Villa Hills was one of 11 students at Western Kentucky University to be inducted into the Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society Feb. 9 during a ceremony in WKU’s Downing Student Union.

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor society, recognizes and encourages superior leadership and exemplary character.

The group supports collaboration among students, faculty and members of all ages and across the five phases celebrated by ODK: scholarship, athletics, service, communication and arts. Since the founding in 1914, ODK has continued to honor and develop leaders through scholarships, workshops, career opportunities, leadership resources and a lifelong connection to other members.

New principal at Newport Central Catholic

Most Reverend Roger J. Foys, Bishop of Covington, announced to an assembly at Newport Central Catholic that Ron Dawn is the new principal.

Dawn has been interim principal. He is in his 35th year at Newport Central Catholic and has served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and assistant principal.
