Bishop Foys hosts regional Catholics @ The Capitol forum to hear from state public officials on policy

Bishop Roger Foys is hosting the regional Catholics @ The Capitol forum on Feb. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Bishop Howard Memorial Auditorium at the Diocese of Covington Curia, lower level, 1125 Madison Ave., Covington.

The event is free and open to the public and the media. Continental breakfast begins at 9 a.m.

State Representatives and Senators from the 14 counties that comprise the Diocese of Covington have been invited. They have been invited to describe issues being considered by the Kentucky General Assembly, currently in session in Frankfort, that might be of interest to the Catholic Church and Catholic social teaching.

The meeting will be led by the Executive Staff of the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, Jason Hall and Andrew Vandiver.

The CCK is the official public policy voice of the four Catholic dioceses in Kentucky (Louisville, Covington, Lexington and Owensboro).

The event is a chance to learn about CCK’s legislative agenda, as determined by the four Catholic bishops in Kentucky, and to interact with local legislators, especially concerning pro-life issues, school choice, criminal justice reform and health care.

“We are blessed to have a Catholics@TheCapitol event here in the Diocese on Saturday, 4 February,” said Bishop Foys. “It will give all who attend an opportunity to hear what is happening at the Catholic Conference of Kentucky and to learn what issues are being taken up in our legislature. It will also provide an opportunity to meet and speak with our legislators and to ask questions. Our involvement in the civic arena is very important and Catholics@TheCapitol provides us with an opportunity to be involved.”

There is no fee to attend but registration is requested. Send an e-mail to Vicky Bauerle, vbauerle@covingtoncharities.org, or phone (859) 581-8974, ext. 116.

Catholic Charities—Diocese of Covington and the diocesan Pro-Life Office are organizing the event.
