9th Region All “A” Classic: Lloyd, Ludlow advance to semifinals with seniors leading the way

Lloyd shot 54.5 percent (30 of 55) from the field and defeated St. Henry, 73-56 , in the quarterfinals of the 9th Region All “A” Classic on Wednesday at Ludlow High School

The Juggernauts had a 50-42 lead going into the second half and pulled away by making 15 of their last 25 shots for 60 percent. Lloyd’s leading scorer was senior forward Sterling Hamilton with 21 points, followed by guards Jamal Neal and Derrick Cipillone with 14 each. All three of them shot better than 50 percent from the field.

St. Henry senior guard Stephen Maley took game-high scoring honors with 26 points. He made 10 of his team’s 20 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Crusaders shot 48.8 percent (20 of 41) from the field.

In Wednesday’s other quarterfinal game, Ludlow defeated Villa Madonna, 58-51, behind a pair of 18-point performances by senior guards T.C. Eads and Chandler Booker, who stepped up at different times in the game.

Eads scored 15 points during the first half when his team took a 34-17 lead. Chandler scored nine points in the second half to help the Panthers seal the victory.

Villa Madonna’s leading scorers were senior forward Will Martin with 19 points and junior guard Sean McIntyre with 15. Martin got 18 in the second half when he made four 3-point shots.

The two teams took a combined total of 54 free throws during the game. Ludlow made 19 of 33 with Booker sinking 10 while Villa Madonna converted 13 of 21.
