Light-Night Newport — Santa & Elves

Light-Night on Saturday, Dec. 3 starts a series of free events, Lighting up the Night with free wearable LED lights. The goal is to empower Northern Kentucky residents to improve neighborhood safety and their own health with fitness-based night traffic.

The event is from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Wearable lights are being given away during registration and safety briefing. Then the groups set out on a short tour through the City of Newport. This time the groups will end at the Campbell County building on Monmouth St. and all walk together to the Newport City Building for the annual tree lighting.

Each walker, runner and cyclist will also receive a jingle bell to wear for the Christmas edition of Light-Night. Residents from Newport, Covington, Fort Thomas and more have joined the Light-Night movement, with participants from all ages.

Walkers and runner will meet at Bob Rocker’s Running Sport, 317 Monmouth; bikers will meet at Reser Bicycle Outfitters, 648 Monmouth.

Newport Branch – Campbell County Library
“Drop Your Drawers” At the Library – 901 East 6th Street
Drop off packages of new underwear for boys and girls, preferably sizes 4-16, from now through December 31t.  Donations will help replenish Campbell County public elementary schools’ supplies of emergency underpants and provide direct assistance to each school’s Family Resource Centers.  The need is great. Schools are handing out 30 to 100 pair each month to children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home. Because parents often are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom.

The goal is to receive 6,000 pairs. Underwear will be distributed evenly to 14 public elementary schools in Campbell County.  The schools receiving the underwear are Campbell Ridge, Cline, Crossroads, Grandview, Grant’s Lick, Johnson, Lincoln, Moyer, Newport Intermediate, Newport Primary, Reiley, Silver Grove, Southgate and Woodfill Elementary.
