Boone County Public Library to update online catalog beginning today, some services unavailable during upgrade

Boone County Public Library is updating its online catalog, beginning today through Dec. 7, to be able to offer a higher level of service to its customers.

bcpl-196x75While the catalog is being updated, customers will not be able to search for items in the catalog, place holds or pay fines.

Cardholders will still be able to check out items at all library locations, but they MUST have their library cards with them in order to do so. During December 5-7, staff members will be unable to access customer accounts, fulfill hold requests or check in items.

Because of the limited service, the library will not charge fines the entire week of December 4-10. The newly updated catalog will look a bit different, but users will be able to do everything they could do before and more.

  • Cardholders will now be able to check out e-books from inside the catalog with just a few simple clicks.
  • All check-outs, both physical and digital, will be listed in one place — the cardholder’s account.
  • The new catalog will communicate with Facebook, so Facebook fans will be able to check out digital items and reserve holds directly from the library’s Facebook page.
  • There will be an “Only Show Available” button on the main page of the catalog. This tool can be used to only see items that are available for check-out right now.
  • The library’s Local History Department will have its own section of the catalog, so local history digital resources will be easier to find.

The library plans to be up and running with full service by December 8.
