Jonnas, a golden labrador, is the newest member of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force, thanks to a gift from the Matt Haverkamp Foundation.

Jones comes from the Shallow Creek Kennels and will undergo training to become a certified drug detection K-9 for the Drug Strike Force.

The Matt Haverkamp Foundation was established in November 2005 in honor of K9 police officer, Matt Haverkamp who died in 2005 of injuries sustained in a car accident.

The Foundation supports law enforcement agencies in the Tri-State area.

It has purchased a number of K9s for local police departments over the years including Anderson Township, Blue Ash, Cheviot, City of Cincinnati, Clermont County, Delhi, Goshen, Green Township, Hamilton County, Loveland, Lynchburg, Madeira, Mason, Norwood, Highland Heights and Woodlawn.

The Foundation has also assisted New Richmond in starting up a new K9 unit and helped several other police departments by purchasing heat sensors, training equipment and bulletproof vests.

Haverkamp graduated from Colerain High School and received his Criminal Justice Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He became a police officer for the Golf Manor Police Department in 1999 where he founded the department’s bicycle patrol and K9 unit.
