“Coach a child – change a life.”

This is what the One to One Program has done since 2008 by pairing over 2,600 elementary students on a “one to one” basis with community volunteers to work on reading and math skills. One to One is a collaborative effort between the community and the schools within the community. One to One is based on engagement, a child’s interest and motivation. At the heart of this initiative is the relationship between a coach and a child.

One to One: Practicing Reading and Math with Students is now taking registrations for volunteers to become new reading and math coaches for the 2016-17 academic year. One to One trains volunteers to produce measurable, positive results for first to third grade students who are struggling with reading or math.

One to One Coaches practice with the same student for 35 minutes once a week in a simple format that emphasizes reading, writing, and building basic skills in number sense, numbers and operations.

Volunteer opportunities exist in 42 elementary schools throughout Northern Kentucky. Coaching sessions are coordinated based on the volunteer’s availability during the school day.

Both daytime and evening training sessions are available at multiple locations throughout the region in August and September.

For more information or to register for and upcoming training session please visit the Northern Kentucky Education Council website www.nkyec.org under One to One or contact Leslie Armstrong at larmstrong@nkyec.org or 859-282-9214.
