Sr. Margaret Mary Austing, CDP passed away on January 1, 2019. She was a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 77 years. Born in Dayton, Kentucky in 1923 to Bernard Joseph and Emma Mae Austing, she made her first profession of vows in 1941 and professed her final vows in 1946.

Sr. Margaret Mary began her ministry of teaching in 1945 at St. Aloysius School, Elmwood, OH. For the next forty years she taught in elementary schools or in parish religious education programs or served as librarian in schools in Kentucky, West Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland and Ohio. In 1990 she moved to Kayenta, Arizona and for the next seven years served the parish community of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This was one of the highlights of her life being among the Navajo people.

She moved to St. Anne Convent in 1997 and continued to assist with the library duties until 2004 when she retired to Holy Family Home and her ministry of prayer began in earnest. Her interest in world affairs and justice issues never waned despite her failing eyesight and physical limitations.

She will be missed by her religious community, the Sisters of Divine Providence, her niece and nephew, Ellen and Steven Coghill, and her cousins. Her younger sister Sr. Mary Edith, CDP and her younger brother, Ray preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Holy Family Home, Melbourne on Friday January 4 at 4:00. Wake and Visitation will be at 3:00 with burial in convent cemetery following Mass. Memorials to the Congregation of Divine Providence, 5300 Saint Anne Drive, Melbourne, KY 41059.
