Mary Louise McGinnis Halpin, age 93, of Bellevue, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of the late Thomas P. Halpin and the devoted daughter of the late Hugh and Tillie (Boden) McGinnis. She was also preceded in death by grandson Brian Halpin and great-grandson Justin Dean. Mary Lou is survived by her nine children: Mary Anne (Michael) Gurnee, Steve (Della) Halpin, Dr. Mark (Mary Ann) Halpin, Pat (late Howard) Walls, Dr. Michael (Kay) Halpin, Sue (Mo) Rahali, Barbara (Randy) McGraw, Janice Halpin, Brad (Susan) Halpin. She also has 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mary Lou was an associate of the Sisters of Notre Dame and a commissioned lay minister for the Diocese of Covington. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church of Bellevue and a 35 year volunteer for both Sacred Heart School and the Parish Altar Society. She served as both a secretary and pastoral associate of St. Catherine’s of Fort Thomas as well as a member of the St. Catherine Sienna Seniors Club. After raising her children, she decided to pursue a life-long dream of a college education. In December of 2000, at the age of 75, this goal was achieved by graduating from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religious studies. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards (especially Bridge), rooting on the Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds, and diving into a good book with chocolate or a bowl of ice cream close by.
Fortunately, for the last year and a half, she resided in the Lodge at St. Charles. This afforded her the opportunity to make new friends and explore a wide variety of activities for which her family is extremely grateful. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at Divine Mercy Parish in Bellevue, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 PM on Tuesday. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell serving the family.
