National traveling exhibition, ‘Discover Earth: Our Changing Planet,’ comes to BCPL Scheben Branch


Discover Earth: Our Changing Planet, a national traveling exhibition exploring a global view of our changing environment, will be on display at Boone County Public Library, Scheben Branch in Union, from May 14 to August 5.

BCPL Discover EarthThe exhibition is free and open to the public during library hours: Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Free refreshments will be offered from 1-3 p.m. on opening day, Saturday, May 14, at the Scheben Branch.

The all-ages exhibit will include twelve different interactive stations. Discover Earth makes science fun with hands-on multimedia activities on topics such as weather, the water cycle, and how changes in our local ecosystem impact the environment around the world.

“We are proud that Boone County Public Library was selected to be one of eight sites nationwide to host the Discover Earth exhibit,” said Shawn Fry, Assistant Library Director. “We think people of all ages and backgrounds will find that the exhibition explores earth science in a way that is understandable, fulfilling, captivating and relevant.”

Boone County Public Library will also offer a related series of public events to bring STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programming to children, teens and adults. Additional details are available on the Boone County Public Library website and in the monthly newsletter.

The Boone County Public Library Scheben Branch is located at 8899 US 42, in Union.

Discover Earth: A Century of Change, a traveling exhibition for libraries, is part of the STAR Library Education Network (STAR_Net) led by the National Center for the Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute. Exhibit partners include the American Library Association, the Lunar and Planetary Institute, and Afterschool Alliance. Discover Earth is supported through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
