Holmes High School senior Jada Cummings is the recipient of the QuestBridge Scholarship which is valued at more than $280,000 over four years.

The QuestBridge College Match is a national program that pairs high achieving, low income high school seniors with full scholarships to the top colleges in the nation.

In October, Jada, was notified she was a one of 5,759 finalists chosen from 15,606 applicants. She has been notified that she is among the 918 winners.

Jada plans to attend Emory University in Atlanta, where she will major in Nursing and History. She eventually wants to become a labor and delivery nurse.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity and I hope that programs like QuestBridge continue to extend into communities like ours,” Jada said.

Jada has a 4.3 GPA and ranks fourth in her class. She is in Holmes’ International Baccalaureate program, where high school students take college level courses.

“We’re excited for Jada,’’ said Holmes Principal Scott Hornblower. “She has dedicated herself to academic excellence and it’s paid off for her.”

Holmes English teacher Karen Zaino, who encouraged Jada to apply for the scholarship, said Jada will do well.

“Jada’s accomplishment is a reflection of her tireless efforts both in and out of the classroom,’’ Ms. Zaino said.

“In the three years I have known her, she has pushed herself in every possible endeavor. Although undeniably intellectually gifted, she is more than an outstanding student; she is a truly an exceptional human being who will continue to make her family and community proud in the years ahead. I can’t wait to see what she does with this opportunity.”

Students selected for the College Match are “matched” to one of QuestBridge’s highly selective college partners, which means they were admitted early with a guaranteed full, four-year scholarship, including tuition, room and board, and other expenses.

QuestBridge’s college partners include top liberal arts colleges such as Amherst, Colby, Hamilton, Pomona, and Williams and exceptional research universities such as Brown, Columbia, Duke, UChicago, Stanford, and Yale. Since 2003, the QuestBridge National College Match has successfully connected over 5,000 students with full scholarships to college partners. These prestigious, nationally-recognized scholarships are generously provided to recipients by the colleges.

Many more National College Match Finalists will be admitted later in the year through Early and Regular Decision processes and all Finalists who ultimately matriculate to a QuestBridge college partner become QuestBridge Scholars. The QuestBridge Scholars Network now includes over 12,000 current students and alumni nationally.

QuestBridge is a national nonprofit based in Palo Alto, California. It aims to help talented low-income students attend the nation’s best colleges and to support them to achieve success in their respective careers and communities.
