NKY’s NAACP to hold its annual Freedom Fund Gala, ‘Tomorrow is Here,’ on Friday evening


The NKY Branch of NAACP will hold its Freedom Fund Gala, ‘Tomorrow is Here,’ at the Radisson RiverView Hotel Ballroom at 668 West Fifth Street in Covington on Friday.

The event starts at 7 p.m. with a pre-Gala reception from 6-6:45 p.m.

Kristilynn Turney

Dr. Kristilynn Turney, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 21st Annual Freedom Fund Gala.

Dr. Turney is CEO and Founder of Dr. Kristilynn Turney, LLC and EdPD Unlimited, which was founded in 2019. She specializes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plans, Consulting, and Professional Development, Educational and Organizational Leadership, Coaching, and Mentoring, and School Improvement. She served in public education for over 20 years. She lives in Cincinnati.

Del-Shawn R. Hayes of Covington is Mistress of Ceremonies.

The Northern Kentucky Branch NAACP will present scholarships to students attending area colleges and universities.

The following awards will also be presented:

• Corporate Partner Award to St. Elizabeth Health and Transitions, Inc.

• President Award to Patrick and Jameka Evans and Wale Giwa.

• Courageous Leadership Award to Penny Blevins

• The Education Partner Award to Ms. Kelly Ferguson and Jashaun York

• Community Empowerment Award to Pastor Adam P. Crews, Jr. and New Beginning Community Church.

• NAACP Armed Services and Veterans Recognition Award for outstanding Military Service to Alice Housley.
