Brandon Releford, executive director of education for The Point/Arc’s Zembrodt Education Center, has a purpose this fall.

It’s pottery.

Make that, Pottery with a Purpose.

And it’s set for Friday evening, November 12th at the Zembrodt Education Center (ZEC), 104 West Pike Street, Covington.

“This is something new for me, and The ZEC,” said Releford, who became the first active Executive Director for the ZEC this Fall.

The Zembrodt Education Center officially opened in 2020 and was totally vacant last year due to the pandemic.

“Pottery with a Purpose is a true family event,” said the 39-year-old Releford. “We’ll have a variety of pottery items to choose from to paint – ornaments, plates, tiles, bowls and coffee mugs.”

Pottery with a Purpose is set for 6-9 p.m., with a $10 admission which includes the firing fee, apple cider and cookies and a digital photo in front of a Fall scene.

Tickets as well as RSVP can be obtained here.

“Individuals will choose the pottery to paint on the evening of the event,” Releford said, “and the cost of the pottery will vary depending on the item selected.”

Prices will range from $5 to $20.

“Once the pottery has been fired in the kiln, we will notify the families for pickup,” Releford said. “This process usually takes about two weeks.”

All monies will be used to support The Point/Arc’s Zembrodt Education Center.

The ZEC was created to give people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) opportunities to reach their highest potential educationally, residentially, socially and vocationally.

“An extension of The Point/Arc, ZEC strives to increase growth and support for individuals and families in the Greater Cincinnati Region,” said The Point/Arc founder and President, Judi Gerding.

“From the very beginning, we have been in conversation with anyone willing to talk to us – parents, students, counselors, teachers and other non-profits – about unmet needs and possible collaborations so that ZEC is a place created for the community, within the community,” she said.

As for Pottery with a Purpose, “It’s an event as well as a great opportunity for families to participate in fun Fall activity, socialize, and have some nice hot apple cider,” Releford said.
