Favored Jean Elizabeth dominates Holiday Inaugural Stakes at Turfway Park for fourth straight stakes win

Most of the money was on Jean Elizabeth in the 33rd running of the Holiday Inaugural Stakes (BT) at Turfway Park Friday and she didn’t disappoint, racing powerfully on the front end to score by 3 1/2 lengths over determined 16-1 long shot Domonette. Psalmody was third, another 4 1/4 lengths back in the six furlong test for fillies and mares 3 years old and up.

“She was the only speed in the race,” said winning jockey Albin Jimenez. “She’s a classy filly. I had a ton of horse. When I asked her she took off like a rocket.”

Jean Elizabeth was bumped coming out of the gate but shrugged it off and set about living up to her reputation, clocking fractions of :22.34, :45.26 and :57.12 before finishing in 1:09.39. Domonette gamely tracked her throughout but could not keep pace as the winner gradually pulled away.

Thoughtless was fourth, followed by Pastime, Lunar Approach, Courtmewithcarats and Iva. Obsolete, Rocky Policy, Still There, Tough Irma, Trace and Upset Brewing scratched.

Sent off at 1-5, Jean Elizabeth paid $2.60, $2.40 and $2.10.

By Adios Charlie out of Rooney Doodle, by Lit de Justice, 4-year-old Jean Elizabeth is trained by Larry Rivelli, who co-owns the filly with Richard Ravin and Vince Foglia’s Patricia’s Hope LLC. She was bred in Illinois by Ravin and Rivelli.

The Holiday Inaugural was the fourth straight stakes win for Jean Elizabeth, who now has won 11 of her 17 starts,  on dirt and all-weather, never finished worse than third, and earned her first graded stakes two starts back in the Ontario Fashion (G3). The $75,000 Holiday Inaugural purse includes $25,000 in Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund monies, meaning the Illinois-bred winner was running for $50,000. Her share increased her earnings to $412,628.
