Tony Magner, Angela Turnick appointed co-interim principals of Holmes High School

Tony Magner and Angela Turnick will begin their new jobs as co-interim principals of Holmes High School on Monday, November 25.

They are replacing Scott Hornblower who announced earlier this month that he was leaving Holmes after requesting a change in assignment.



Magner and Turnick are thrilled about their new roles.

“All students at Holmes High School deserve to receive an excellent education that prepares them for the post-secondary,” Turnick said. “We have to stay focused on student outcomes and ensure all decisions are based on what is best for our students.”

Magner, who has been at Holmes for eight years, agrees.

“As co-interim principal, I am excited to continue to work with students, teachers, and staff to ensure that every classroom at Holmes is full of students engaged in rigorous and relevant activities that will lead them to success in college, the workforce, or the military,” Magner said.



Turnick has spent her educational career in Covington Schools beginning in 2005 as a student-teacher. Before being named assistant principal of Holmes in 2014, Turnick served as a teacher and instructional coach. She was a teacher leader, serving as English Department Instructional Lead and teacher representative to Holmes’ School-Based Decision-Making Council. In addition, she was a national trainer for the College Board’s SpringBoard curriculum and was a winner of the prestigious Golden Apple Award.



She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s in Instructional Leadership from Northern Kentucky University.

She and her husband, Kevin, are the proud parents of Abigail and Zachary.

Magner, who came to the district from the Teach for America program, has been at Holmes since 2012.

“I quickly fell in love with the students at Holmes and I have worked ever since to ensure that all our students receive the excellent education that they deserve,” he said.



Magner served as a math teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal at Holmes. In addition, he was a member of Holmes’ School-Based Decision-Making Council, facilitated the school’s new teacher mentoring program, and coordinated the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs.



He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati, and Post-Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University. He and his wife, Jillian, have two sons, Anthony and Dominic.



Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison believes they will do an outstanding job.

“They both have unique strengths, and together they will make a terrific team,” Garrison said.
