Covington Police have charged Alexander Hegerty, 24, of Covington, and Alexander Majeid, 23, of Ft. Wright, with 2 counts each of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, a Class D Felony.

The incident took place on West Seventh Street, early Tuesday morning.

In a release, a Covington Police spokesman said the department received numerous tips after a video was published through local media outlets.

Police say Hegerty and Majeid came in for interviews and admitted to shattering the windshields.

The statement did not indicate a reason the windshields were smashed, but the video suggests they were random acts.

Hegerty and Majeid lodged in the Kenton County Detention Center.

Details of the statement released by the Covington Police Department:

On October 22, 2019, Covington Patrol Officers took a report reference their vehicles’ windshield being smashed. They also reported that there was video of the incident. That video was obtained and was published in an attempt to identify the subjects.

After numerous tips over the last 24 hours, the Criminal Investigation Bureau was able to identify both subjects who responded to Covington Police Headquarters for interviews. Both subjects admitted to shattering the windshields of the vehicles and have subsequently been charged with 2 counts each of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, a Class D Felony. Both have been lodged at the Kenton County Detention Center.
