Northern Kentucky University invites cybersecurity leaders from across the nation to the 12th annual Cybersecurity Symposium on October 10 and 11, 2019.
Presented by Chase College of Law and the College of Informatics, the symposium brings together IT and security professionals, as well as security and privacy attorneys, to focus on cybersecurity challenges, legal issues, risk management and best practices.
Globally renowned cybersecurity researcher Dr. Charlie Miller will deliver this year’s keynote address, discussing Internet of Things vs. Security of Things. With the headlines of everyday household items like light bulbs and toothbrushes getting hacked, Dr. Miller incorporates stories from his research about why these devices differentiate from normal computers and their unique vulnerability.
“In a world of smart devices whose job is to listen to, watch, and track us, cybersecurity becomes especially important,” said Dr. Kevin Kirby, dean of the College of Informatics. “As our keynote speaker will emphasize, the Internet of Things must be subject to greater professional scrutiny and public awareness. The symposium is one way NKU is helping advance these conversations.”
New to the symposium this year will be The Living Escape Room by Living Security, in which NKU invites attendees to test their security awareness. The innovative experience brings a renewed approach to cybersecurity principles through a variety of clues and puzzles. Registration is required.
