Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame 1869 Red Stockings to host Bluegrass Barons this Sunday at Pioneer Park

The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame 1869 Red Stockings will host the Bluegrass Barons Vintage Base Ball Club in a doubleheader at Pioneer Park in Covington at 1 p.m. this Sunday (Sept. 8).

Honoring baseball’s first professional baseball team on its 150th anniversary, the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame 1869 Red Stockings play according to the rules of baseball in 1869. Pitchers must throw underhanded and fielders must make plays barehanded, since gloves were not allowed until much later.

Teams wear uniforms in the style of the 1870s, and the games recreate the way baseball was originally played.

Facing the Reds Hall of Fame 1869 Red Stockings are the Bluegrass Barons from Lexington.

The two teams have played three games in 2019, with the Bluegrass Barons winning all three. The doubleheader will be the last games for the Reds Hall of Fame 1869 Red Stockings in the Cincinnati-area before they travel to Sacramento, Calif., to recreate games the original Red Stockings had with West Coast teams in 1869.

Pioneer Park is located at 3952 Madison Pike, Covington. First pitch is at 1 p.m.

While vintage baseball teams play for the love of the game, the spirit of competition is very much alive as both teams try their hardest to win. Crowds are entertained with the excitement of barehanded baseball which respects the gentlemanly traditions of the game.

The Bluegrass Barons have a record of 16-3 in 2019. For more information about the Bluegrass Barons, visit the Bluegrass Barons on Facebook or email bluegrassbarons80@gmail.com.
