Covington public schools delay start until September 3, due to water damage to some schools

Covington Independent Public Schools has delayed the start of school until Tuesday, September 3, because of water damage to several schools.

Alvin Garrison

The announcement was made to parents and the public by Supt. Alvin Garrison Tuesday afternoon.

Garrison said the full school year calendar is under review and the revised calendar will be approved by the Covington Board of Education later this month.

John G. Carlisle Elementary School sustained significant water damage recently, due to a ruptured pipe, he said. The Holmes Campus and the alternative programs also sustained water damage.

“As always our priority is the health and safety of our students and staff,” he said.

Garrison apologized for any inconvenience caused by the revised scheduling and said parents should contact their school’s principal with any questions.
