Newport Independent Schools providing free summer meals for kids, starting Monday


Newport Independent School District will serve free meals to children in the city from July 8 to Aug. 1 through its participation in the Summer Meal Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Continuing its efforts to ensure no child goes hungry during the summer months, the school district will provide free breakfast and lunch to any child under 18 years of age on weekdays at the Newport Primary School during this four-week period.

“Many of our students and families rely on nutritious meals served in our schools throughout the school year,” said Newport Independent Schools Food Service Director Lisa Rizzo.

“Our summer meal program is an effort to continue good nutrition on a year-round basis to those students who may not receive it otherwise.”

No registration or application is required. Meals will be provided free of charge to all children under the age of 18 regardless of race, color, national origin, or disability.

The school district will be proving meals on a first come, first served basis at the following location and times:

Newport Primary School
1102 York Street Newport, KY 41071
Monday through Friday from July 8 to Aug. 1
Breakfast: 8 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
