Homebuys ‘treasure hunt’ store to locate in Florence in former Toys R Us site; first in KY

HomeBuys, a discount retailer with four locations across Ohio, will open its first store in Kentucky and another in Cincinnati in the coming weeks.

It will be locating in Florence in the former Toys R Us location at 7960 Connector Dr.

The new Cincinnati store will be in the Ridgewater Plaza at 3240 Highland Ave. next to Lowe’s.

The Florence location will have a soft opening in late July with an official grand opening date to be announced.

Details on the Cincinnati location’s soft opening are to be announced.

HomeBuys provides “The Best for Less” – unbeatable prices on name brand items for the home.

The chain was established in 2015 when founders Brady Churches, Jerry Sommers and Karen Waldmann opened locations in southwest Columbus, Dayton and North Canton. The fourth HomeBuys location opened in May at 1630 Morse Road in north Columbus.

Churches, Sommers and Waldmann have decades of experience in the retail business and were excited to begin a retail chain after creating a successful wholesale business in Columbus.

“Retail has been a large part of our lives,” Waldmann said. “And obviously we’re proud to be helping our local communities across Ohio and in other states by adding jobs and offering affordable name brand products to our customers.”

HomeBuys aspires to provide shoppers with not only great bargains but also a unique “treasure hunt” feel.

The company relies on “opportunistic buying,” where buyers find closeout items from big box retailers and other great sources across the world. The savings are then passed on to customers.

Because of the closeout nature, the inventory changes often. Customers find new and unique items each trip to HomeBuys – making each trip a “treasure hunt.” HomeBuys strives to put the fun back into shopping at brick and mortar stores.

“We provide a large mix of items and prices that people can’t resist,” Churches said. “There is no other retailer in American quite like HomeBuys, and we’re excited to expand into the tri-state area.”

Departments at each HomeBuys include gourmet foods, party goods, furniture, seasonal, a wine and craft beer department and much more.

“We can’t wait for everyone to see all that we have to offer,” Waldmann said. “We are excited to grow our brand into new markets, and we hope to provide something special to the people in Florence and Cincinnati.”

I worked at HomeBuys o Clime Rd. But moved to North Lewisburg so had to leave. There is an old Kroger store on 5th behind a Wendy in Marysville, you should open a store there. I’ve not seen any stores like HomeBuys up here so have to go to Columbus to shop.
