NKU’s Field Station Hosts “Talk & Walk” Nature Series with the focus on Monarch butterflies

Northern Kentucky University’s Research and Education Field Station (REFS) hosts its annual “Talk & Walk” nature series on Thursday, June 20.

This latest event in the nature series explores Monarch butterflies with Michaela Rogers of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. Rogers will discuss the insect’s lasting impact across the Commonwealth.

NKU’s REFS facility provides scholars an operation base for a wide range of field research and offers students across disciplines opportunities for field-oriented curricula, independent research and close interactions with professionals.

REFS is adjacent to and facilitates the use of 155 acres of St. Anne Woods and Wetlands Natural Area, a conservation easement on and near the Ohio River.

The Field Station is also offering the first Wetlands Management micro-credential. Professionals and students will learn to identify wetland plants, assess wetlands biodiversity and learn wetlands delineation and monitoring through investigating critical areas.

The three-class micro-credential began in June and will run through September. The courses are offered in the accelerated format and are designed to discuss the impact of these critical areas. For more information on the micro-credential, visit micro-credential page..

The “Talk and Walk” events are scheduled every other Thursday evening through August.
