CLEAR opens 30th airport location with launch at CVG; technology eases trip though airport security

CLEAR, the secure identity company using biometrics to build a frictionless and secure world, launched at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), the 30th airport in its nationwide network.  With CLEAR, travelers can verify their identity with a tap of the finger or the blink of an eye so they can get through security and on their way quickly and easily.

CLEAR is changing the way consumers experience the world by transforming the cards in their wallet into a single biometric ID.  With CLEAR, your fingertips, eyes and face are your ID, credit card, ticket, reservation and more.  Today, there are more than 3 million CLEAR members enjoying secure, frictionless experiences at 50+ airports, stadiums and other locations nationwide.

“CVG is the perfect location to launch CLEAR’s 30th airport because they continue to innovate in so many ways,” said Howard Kass, CLEAR’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs.  “We’re especially proud to have created 25 new jobs here in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, and look forward to working with our local partners to make travel safer, easier and more enjoyable for all.”

CVG, offers more nonstop flights than any other airport in the Tri-State (Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana), and is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country.  It’s also the only airport in the United States to receive Safety Act designation and certification from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), meaning CVG meets or exceeds DHS security standards.

“Our mission is to make travel through CVG an unforgettably positive experience, and with the added convenience of CLEAR, we’ll be able to continue to deliver on that mission,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG. “We’re happy to partner with CLEAR, and I’m confident travelers will enjoy having this service option at our airport.”

CVG is the third Ohio-area location to join CLEAR’s nationwide network.  Last month, CLEAR opened a dedicated lane at Progressive Field, home to the Cleveland Indians, and in March, the company opened lanes in the Central and South Checkpoints at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE).

How is CLEAR different than TSA PreCheck?

CLEAR and TSA’s PreCheck program are complementary. CLEAR automates the identity check which provides speed and predictability while PreCheck provides convenience during the physical screening process (by allowing flyers to keep their shoes and coat on).

Do CLEAR members bypass security altogether?

No. At both the airport and sports stadiums, CLEAR members get faster access by moving to the front of physical security screening after biometric identification – including bag checks, magnetometers, etc. – but do not bypass security or TSA officers.

CLEAR membership is $15 per month, paid annually, with the option to add an additional family member for just $50 per year. Members can also bring their children under 18 with them through the CLEAR lane for free. After a fast, one-time enrollment, members can begin using CLEAR immediately.

CLEAR’s secure identity platform complies with The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) rigorous guidelines for protecting sensitive data and is certified as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  After enrolling at any CLEAR location, members can begin using CLEAR Lanes immediately.  For more information, click here.
